Report : Eagles Are Being Cautious With Carson Wentz’s Back Injury
Peyton Manning, Tony Romo, Matthew Stafford. All great NFL quarterbacks. All have missed time throughout their careers due to back injuries. Some more painful and longer than others. But, being on the main-stage and being a NFL starting quarterback takes its toll on the human body.
Eagles Carson Wentz is dealing with a back-injury of his own at the moment. But, being so early in his career, instead of forcing the issue. Could the Eagles be protecting Wentz?
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Eagles are being “ultra-cautious” with Carson Wentz’s back injury and Wentz will not step back onto the field until he is 100% healthy.
Wentz, who hasn’t played since Week 14, has a fracture in his lower back discovered in a scan. However, according to reports, has been dealing with severe stiffness and excruciating spasms in his back since Week 6 against the Giants. It is yet to be determined when the actual injury happened. But, with Wentz dealing with back issues since Week 6, why did it take so long? Why did it take eight weeks to figure out a more in-depth injury? Why are they now being “ultra-cautious” with the injury?
These questions arise from the possibility that Wentz may have been playing through an injury and it got worse and worse over time. Something that could relate directly to the medical staff supposedly trying to treat Wentz. Could Wentz have been misdiagnosed? Could Wentz have been getting treatment for the wrong issue?
That is something that is very plausible and here is why.
The Eagles made a medical staff change this season. A change that has some issues coming with it, pertaining to some other young Philadelphia athletes. The Eagles new medical staff is the same staff that treats the Philadelphia Sixers. A team riddled by misdiagnosis and mistreatments of their young stars.
Therefore, could Wentz have been getting treatment for an injury the medical staff thought he had. But, in end not the real injury? Essentially prolonging and injuring Wentz even more? Very plausible and that makes even more sense with Carson Wentz going to get a second opinion on his back.
Head coach Doug Pederson on Tuesday December 11th said Wentz was being held out of practice to rest some stiffness in his back. Also stating it was not related to the Cowboys game and Wentz has been dealing with it. Then, two days later, Doug Pederson stepped to the podium and announced the fracture in Wentz’s back.
When the injury was announced, head coach Doug Pederson said a he couldn’t put a timetable on the injury but said recovery time could be three months. Three months from December 9th would be March 9th. But, since Doug Pederson said the injury wasn’t sustained in the Cowboys game, when did that three months start?
Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews said, “Obviously he’s been playing through it. Tough kid, tough guy”, following the team announcing Wentz’s injury. Somewhat more confirming Wentz has been injured for some time. If Wentz has been playing through the injury, the Dallas game might have been the point of the second opinion, the discovery of the fracture, and the reason why Wentz has been held out.
The Eagles being “ultra-cautious” with Wentz comes after Doug Pederson has yet to rule out Carson Wentz this weekend vs the Saints. Pederson said it is still undecided whether or not Carson Wentz would be active this weekend. Which, if Wentz is active and does not start. The Eagles would be dressing Wentz as a precautionary reason. That judgment coming from Doug Pederson’s comments that when Wentz is healthy, he is the starter.
If Wentz is active and does not start. Wentz is not 100% healthy. Which goes back to the whole discovery and injury itself. If Carson Wentz was misdiagnosed and was being mistreated, could Wentz’s camp have stepped in or could Howie Roseman have stepped in and said the future needs to be taken into account here? Which would have been after Week 14 against the Cowboys.
All good questions that come from an answer that the Eagles are being “ultra-cautious” with Wentz’s back injury and putting the future above immediate success.
