What Was The Main Reason The Sixers Got Jimmy Butler Again?
First, Merry Christmas to all who celebrate and Happy Holidays from us here at Philly Fan Life. We at Philly Fan Life hope you had a great holiday and hope yesterday’s Sixers debacle didn’t ruin your day.
Why are we not surprised. The Sixers blew another late lead in Boston. We tried to prepare you for a possible Sixers LOSS. However, that was just… UNBELIEVABLE.
It was a great game first of all. But, secondly, when you have the ball with 19 seconds remaining. In a tied game. With the shot clock turned off. And can hold for the last shot. What can go wrong?
Well, you can’t really lose in regulation that is for sure. However, you can possibly cost yourself the victory if you miss. Now, if this was last season, I would have been fine with the play and shot selection the Sixers went for. But, this isn’t last season.
Let me remind you of a date this season. November 10, 2018. Do you remember that day? That is the day the Sixers acquired their 3rd superstar. Their go to guy to close out games. The guy that can make the clutch shots. Wait, doesn’t that sound like a guy that could have been valuable yesterday with the ball in his hands with under 19 seconds remaining?
Why yes, yes it does. BUT WHY DIDN’T THE SIXERS GET THE BALL TO JIMMY BUTLER WITH THE GAME ON THE LINE? That is a question we will never know the answer too. But, could it have been possible? Uhm…………. Let’s see.
The Sixers got the ball back with 19 seconds left in the game. I think the Sixers could have gotten the ball to Butler in 19 seconds. The Sixers had 2 timeouts remaining in the game. I think Butler could have gotten the ball off an inbounds play. The Sixers acquired someone 2 months ago for these situations. I think Butler would have made the shot.
Therefore, what happened? Well, Brett Brown chose not to call a timeout. The Sixers chose not to get the ball to Jimmy Butler. The Sixers instead left the game in the hands of JJ Reddick, who hadn’t made a shot in the 2nd half. Yes, you are reading that correctly. The Sixers gave the ball to a guy who hadn’t made a shot in the 2nd half.
If that was their logic. Surprising Boston going to someone who shouldn’t have been taking the shot? Hell, if that was it. Let Ben Simmons shoot the shot then.
There was one glaring reason the Sixers got Jimmy Butler. A reason that Butler has already done twice this season. Once against Charlotte and once against Brooklyn. Have the ball in his hands with the game on the line. So, why not yesterday?
The reason remains to be seen. However, if you are trying to get someone, who you acquired to be your closer, to re-sign here in the offseason. Well, uhm, I think you would give him every chance you can to win you games and convince him to stay.
What better Christmas present could you have asked for then Jimmy Butler sinking a game winning jumper. In Boston. On Christmas. In a Sixers uniform.
That would have made my Christmas. But, Brett Brown wasn’t thinking the same way. I guess Brett had too much egg nog the night before.
