Heroes Get Remembered, But BDN Never Dies
Come on, admit it. You knew as soon as Nick Foles was absolutely pummeled by Jadeveon Clowney, he was coming back to finish off that final drive. Even if Foles’ rib was protruding from his chest like a wish bone in a Thanksgiving Turkey, he would’ve still led that team down the field. Because losing to the Texans in a 1pm kickoff commentated by Ian Eagle just wasn’t meant to be how the Foles era ended. We’ve come too far and went through too much for this team and that man to fizzle into the background of a playoff hunt. The Nick Foles experience just doesn’t die that way.
After the roller coaster ride of an afternoon that ended with Nick Foles leading the game-winning drive with a ravaged rib-cage, the reality of the situation has set in. This could be it. But, before it is, today was a perfect example of how Foles, with his personality and his play, has shifted the mentality of fans in this city. Eagles blow a 13 point lead in the 4th quarter, in less than 7 minutes mind you. The misery of defeat usually sets in after that.
But, Sunday, I felt the Foles magic again. I looked at the clock and came to the realization that there was enough time for Foles to do exactly what he did. It’s the same thing I did when Tom Brady hit Rob Gronkowski a few minutes into the 4th quarter on February 4, 2018. Foles has changed my perspective as a fan because he replaces the feeling of heart-tearing collapse with the quiet confidence of a comeback. He’s a fighter, he’s an underdog. That’s who he is, that’s what we’ve always been.
So, the legend of BDN lives at least another week. For us sane, reasonable, level-headed Eagles fans who realize Carson Wentz is the future of this franchise, we know that was Foles’ grand finale at The Linc. Even if the Eagles do sneak into the playoffs, they won’t even sniff a home game. But hey, give me any team, any time, any place when we have Foles Magic on our side. I want to soak that feeling up while I still have the chance.
To Minnesota, I believe in you. I believe you can blow this. To Big Cat, our Eagles did you and your pinky a huge favor on Sunday. I ask that your Chicago Bears do the same next week.
Yesterday was special. We can do all the breakdowns of playoff scenarios we want, but I just want to live in the moment. Because when Nick Foles choked up in his press conference talking about Philadelphia, it put into perspective how lucky we are. It also put into perspective how close this thing is to ending. I’m confident in another week of the BDN magic, I’m hopeful for many more weeks after that too.
