HOWIE AT THE BUZZER: Eagles Snag Golden Tate For a Third-Round Pick

Golden Tate was flying a little TOO under the radar with trade rumors….

HOWIE, YOU DEVILISH DOG. WE KNEW YOU’D GET SOMETHING DONE.
It will be interesting to see if the Eagles re-sign Tate in the offseason (or if that’s even in the plans). A third round pick seems a little bit steep for a half-season rental. If they could lock this guy down for a few years, that obviously changes everything. But for now…I am PUMPED.
This addition fills out the wide receiver depth so perfectly. It was evident, even dating back to last year that they needed one last piece. Torrey Smith, Mack Hollins and Mike Wallace have all been in the role and have all underperform (somewhat due to injury). For a team that’s lacking depth in several key positions, it’s a relief to see Carson Wentz absolutely loaded with weapons now.
This is also exciting because it makes the Cowboys look even more foolish than the already do. Two trades went down for household receiver names before the deadline today…for a third and a fourth round pick. The Cowboys didn’t pay Dez around $16 million so they could trade a first round pick away to snag Amari Cooper and pay him $14 million. I know Cooper has an extra year on his contract and Tate is labeled as a “rental” for now but Dear Lord.
I love the trade deadline.
