Winning Ugly Is Still Winning

Alright, I’m about to breakdown the underlying themes behind this tweet like an AP Literature book report:

Every lifelong Eagles fan appreciates the accuracy behind this tweet. Those of us who experienced the inevitable dread of watching Drew Brees lead the Saints down the field to beat us as time expired in the playoffs, get it. Those of us who thought the Eagles had playoff hopes in 2016, but watched Aaron Rodgers control the ball and the clock all night, get it. Great teams beat good teams even when it’s not pretty. For many painful years, the Eagles were where the Colts were on Sunday. A team that fought hard, but didn’t have enough winning plays in them to finish the deed. The Eagles were the team that got the ball marched down their throats for 11 straight minutes and couldn’t get off the field (see Saints, 2013). The Eagles were the team who had a shot to win it in the red zone and couldn’t get the job done (see Giants, 2016). Now, the Eagles are the team that gets the job done and never looks back.

There’s obviously issues to fix and room for improvement. Carson getting sacked 5 times seems less than ideal. The receivers aren’t Dorial Green-Beckham bad, but it’d be nice to have Alshon back. I have no analytics to back this up but I know in my football mind that Jalen Mills is challenging Brandon Browner for most penalties called on a cornerback in a season. Shit happens. We have holes to patch. But at the end of the day, THEY WON THE GAME. All of a sudden, the Eagles are the team with the IT factor and it starts with the man who came back today.

Here’s some fun facts regarding Carson Wentz:

• After beating the Colts, he is now 13-2 in home games

• The Eagles overall are 15-3 in home games since Wentz became the starting quarterback (17-3 if you count playoff games)

• Wentz has won 11 out of his past 12 starts

My heart is so happy watching Carson Wentz play football. Is this what God fearing, church goers feel like at service on Sundays? For 3 hours, I feel absolved of all negativity and I’m in God’s Light when I’m watching that man create something from less than nothing on critical third downs.

I need the Titans game like I need oxygen and water.
