Phils Give Up 30 Runs In One Day, Gain .5 Game On Braves and Cardinals

Woof, what a day of baseball. Here I was thinking that the Phillies and Mets playing essentially a little league game in Williamsport was going to be the strangest thing this series had to offer. But nope, Scott Kingery lobbing slow pitch to Jose Bautista like it’s a friendly wiffle ball game at a family reunion is going to take the cake.

If you missed the front half of the doubleheader with the Mets yesterday, and let’s face it you probably did because NO ONE WATCHES GAMES ON FACEBOOK, the Phillies lost. Like the Mets scored a franchise record number of runs, lost. Like Roman Quinn was a pitcher, lost. I don’t use Facebook because I’m not a mom posting photos from book club’s night out at the winery, but from what I saw the Phillies had one of the most embarrassing performances in their history.

But then Game 2 happened, and it epitomized everything about Gabe Kapler that people should like. The Phillies as they stand are a lot like the October/November Sixers. Despite some slight offensive woes, the team has serious talent…but they just do some seriously stupid shit (i.e. 4 errors in Game 1 of the doubleheader). But much like Brett Brown did, Kapler sticks with these guys, he fights for these guys, and he always seems to have them in the right mindset even when the city is down on them. In just a few mere hours, not days, the Phils put on those sexy powder blue old school uniforms and put up 9 runs in the night cap. This time in the 9th inning, instead of Kingery lobbing up a 40mph eephus to Jose Bautista, it was Seranthony Dominguez striking out Bautista on a nasty slider to end it.

Just like that, 30 runs later, the Phillies are 1.5 games back of first place in the NL East.

Oh, and don’t be this guy.
