Wilson Chandler and His Neck Tattoos Are Coming to Philly

Cancel the rest of free agency, Sixers have traded for Wilson Chandler. The trade includes a ’21 second round pick and the rights to swap second rounders in ’22. In return, the Nuggets get minimal cash considerations.

Classic cap casualty here folks. Denver was shelling out way too much money to decent players so in order to save they got this deal done. Trading Wilson Chandler saves about 50 million in luxury tax and the Sixers get depth in the SF/PF position. Since I doubt Chandler has the talent to start over Dario or Cov, he will most likely come off the bench. He doesn’t shoot the 3 or take charges as well as Ersan did but he does offer better defense. Last year he averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 35% from beyond the arc. Not the flashy wing we all wanted but Boston exposed our lack of defense from the bench last year, Chandler should be able to cover some of that.

I do like the draft possibilities that come out of this trade. Brett Brown channeled his inner Hinkie and got us another 2nd and a swap the following year. Before we start bitching and moaning about second round picks lets remember after 2021 is different. The drafts that come after that year will be deeper due to High School talent having the ability to go straight to the NBA. That changes things in a very big way. Younger kids could flourish training with NBA talent instead of going to the score first mentality that comes with college ball. The Sixers are setting themselves up to be good for the next decade.

After all is said and done the Sixers basically were given a wing player so the trade should not be hated on. They had cap space since LeBum decided to trash his legacy so Brett went out and made us a little bit better now and a lot better in the future. Just gotta stay trusting the process.
