The Phils Got Thrashed by Ryan Braun Again…
Another Brewers series, another series of watching a decaying Ryan Braun rout the Phils.
In game one he hit 2 bombs, quickly adding to his impressive career numbers against the Phils.
These numbers are absolutely absurd.
69 games
.381/.423
24 homeruns
69 RBI
These numbers are significantly better than his overall career numbers which, mathematically, should not be the case. Statistics nerds will know that 30 is the generally accepted sample size to assume the sample is representative of the whole “population” (meaning Braun’s career numbers). So, 69 should be plenty big to represent his career numbers based on the Law of Averages (Past and future events should balance to a median). This means that Braun’s games against Philly should average out to a median, his overall career numbers.
They don’t.
In his career his he’s batting with a .300/.363/.537 slash line which is noticeably lower than his numbers against the Phils.
This proves mathematically that Braun loves to hit against the Phillies particularly more than other teams.
I would love to pull a very Philly-esque excuse and say
“Oh, he’s a cheater”
“He’s juiced it doesn’t count”
Here’s the thing though…it counts. He was busted for PED’s in back in 2011 and admitted it in 2013. It’s evident that his overall numbers dipped after 2012 which is when he got clean. But…
He still RAKES against the Phils.
In a three-season sample from 2015-2017 Braun’s numbers didn’t waiver
.342/.392/.630
22 homeruns
22 RBI
Yeah, the Phils sucked in those three years but someone who is in the latter stages of a career now unassisted by PEDs doesn’t just put up numbers like that ONLY against one team by accident.
I don’t know that the Phillies’ number is but Ryan Brain sure as shit does.
So, sit back and try to enjoy the Rockies series coming up because right after that we get Braun and the Brew Crew again for another tough three games.
P.S. LOL Eric Kratz is started at catcher for the Brewers the other day.
