This Summer Was Supposed To Be the Biggest In 76ers History…Anddddd It’s Gone

Kim Kardashian met with Donald Trump in the White House today to discuss prison reform and I don’t think that even cracks the top 5 most eye popping stories on the internet in the past 24 hours. That’s how bizarre the ongoing and unraveling Bryan Colangelo burner account story has become. Remember when Markelle Fultz’ shoulder “injury” was the most peculiar saga the Sixers were enduring? Good Ol’ Days.




Thanks to the impeccable detective skills of Sixers Twitter, we can now say with like, 98% certainty that Bryan Colangelo’s wife is behind the burner accounts, including Eric Jr. As Mike Levin said on The Rights to Ricky Sanchez podcast today, Sixers Twitter should be running the Mueller investigation:

Short sighted view? This was the NBA version of Water Gate and it is the most bizarre thing to happen to a franchise who holds weddings at a Lottery Party. Big picture, this absolutely sucks for the Sixers.

Everything, for honestly like 5 years, has been building up to this summer. The patience invested in sustained failure paid off with a phenomenal core of young talent that could attract stars to Philly. Couple that with flexible cap space and you are set to make a plunge into the depths of Lebron Decision Part III.




Think about how much went into just getting to this moment. Drafting two franchise cornerstones (Embiid and Simmons) along with two others who could be budding stars (Saric and Fultz). The front office signed JJ Redick and Amir Johnson to short, 1 year deals with large cap hits so the team could splurge this summer. They recently (literally yesterday) agreed to an extension with their coach to steer the young core in the right direction. It took SO much to get here, and it’s gone.

All it took was a few tweets, it’s not the first time that has damned someone. The latest victim is Colangelo and more so, the Sixers. We are going to walk into free agency meetings on July 1 and Bryan Colangelo is going to say to some of the best players in the league, “Hey, so I or someone close to me got caught talking shit on our star players, but you should definitely come here and be a star player.” Great pitch there guys.




On top of that, leaking medical information will be an enormous red flag for agents whether it is with potential draft prospects or free agents. If that weren’t bad enough, the guys that we already have here, can’t trust the front office. This includes Joel Embiid who, whether Eric Jr likes it or not, is the face of this franchise.

There’s a lot of internet rumors you can recover from and Colangelo may be able to recover from this. Whether he does, whether he doesn’t, whether it was his wife, whether it was Drake’s secret son, never forget one thing…
