Reliving The Best Games Of The Flyers Roller-Coaster Of A Season

Now, after 2 weeks without Flyers hockey, lets look back at the top 5 games of the Flyers roller-coaster season.

Honorable Mention

Home-Opener Capital Whopping – October 14th – Washington Capitals

When The Flyers came home after opening the season on the road, they faced a tough task in the home opener against the Washington Capitals. But, after only leading 2-1 after the 1st, the boys in orange and black put on a show for the home crowd. Outscoring the Capitals 6-1 over the final two periods for the 8-2 victory.

Ghost To The Rescue – December 16th – Dallas Stars

With former Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock coming into Philadelphia looking for his 800th career win, the Flyers didn’t want that to be them. However, one man made sure that would not be the case on that day. That man was Shayne Gostisbehere, who led the Flyers with both goals in a 2-1 OT win over the Stars. Gostisbehere’s two goals spoiled Hitchcock’s 800th career win against his former team and extended the Flyers win streak, at the time, to 6 games.

5) Comeback Comes Up Just Short – October 30th – Arizona Coyotes

After playing down to the winless Coyotes in the first two periods, the Flyers stormed back from a 3-0 Coyotes lead in the third to send the game to overtime. The comeback was even more amazing because the final two goals were scored with under a minute left in the 3rd. Jordan Weal scored with 53 seconds left and Sean Couturier tied the game with 15 seconds left. Even though they ended up losing in OT, this game is where the Flyers mentality of fightback and never giving up started.

4) Win And Your In – April 7th – New York Rangers

With the Flyers going into the last game of the season needing a point to get into the playoffs, they were in a win and your in situation. Boy oh boy did they show up. The Flyers routed the Rangers 5-0 in game 82 of the season to secure their playoff spot and 3rd in the Metro Division. Both amazing accomplishments from where this Flyers team was on December 2nd after losing their 10th straight.

3) McDavid Goes Down Again – October 21st – Edmonton Oilers

No team has done a better job of shutting down Connor McDavid than the Flyers and it continued this year. After holding McDavid scoreless, the Flyers got a late 3rd period goal by Wayne Simmonds to defeat McDavid and the Oilers 2-1.

2) 88 Retirement Night Comeback – January 18th – Toronto Maple Leafs

With Flyers legend Eric Lindros’s #88 going into the rafters, the Flyers wanted to make his night special. The ceremony and all the festivities were amazing and very special to the big #88. However, the Flyers play didn’t match the celebration. Until the 3rd period, when the Flyers started their comeback from a 2-0 hole. The Flyers stormed all the way back and won in overtime to put the cherry on the cake for Eric Lindros jersey retirement night.

1) Philadelphia Takes Over Las Vegas – February 11th – Vegas Golden Knights

When the Flyers schedule came out, every fan circled the Flyers first ever game in Las Vegas. Riding the high of the Eagles Super Bowl win the week before, Philadelphia showed up and took over T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas. And, so did the Flyers. The Flyers demolished the Knights 4-1 in Vegas for only the Knights 5th home loss of the season. Just look at the sea of orange inside T-Mobile arena…
