Has Howie Roseman Turned The Eagles Into The NFL’s Most Wanted To Play For Franchise?
Just 2 years ago, the Eagles were down. In the dumps, possibly even below that. However, just 2 years later, they sit atop of the NFL as the Super Bowl Champs.
How did they turnaround so quickly?
Well, that is because of one reason and one person, Howie Roseman. Howie Roseman has been with the Eagles ever since the glory days with former head coach Andy Reid. Now, entering his 19th season with the team, Roseman accomplished a goal no other GM / Executive Vice President has ever done before. WIN A SUPER BOWL.
But, it hasn’t always been great for Roseman. He has gone through some tough times here in Philadelphia. From the heat he took during the firing of Andy Reid, to hiring Chip Kelly, to none bigger than having his job ripped away from him by an echo-hungry, no good Chip Kelly. Roseman has not let any of that effect him.
When he vacated his position to Chip Kelly in 2014, Roseman didn’t jump ship and leave. No, he stayed, stepped aside, and watched from afar the team he built slowly be dismantled. But, this is where Roseman would shine. After he fired Chip Kelly, Roseman took back over as GM / Executive Vice President and went right back to work. However, the team he took years to build was no more. The team had hardly no talent and no direction.
When Roseman gave up his duties to Chip Kelly, this team was full of talent. But, during the 2 years of Chip Kelly, he dismantled some of the best pieces. LeSean McCoy traded, DeSean Jackson cut, Jeremy Maclin un-signed to name a few. But, that wasn’t the worst part. The new guys Kelly brought in caused even more trouble with their contracts and poor play. Bryon Maxwell overpaid, Kiko Alonso washed up, James Casey overpaid, Sam Bradford useless.
But, this is where Roseman would show his worth. Roseman would make move after move after move to get this team back on top. However, it was the first move he made that has made the biggest difference. The first move Howie Roseman made was signing Doug Pederson. Pederson, who is a clone of Andy Reid, has come in and instilled a sense of new world order.
In just 2 years, the Eagles have went from dumpster fire to the cream of the crop. The reasoning? All because of that simple first move Howie Roseman made to make Doug Pederson the head coach of the Eagles. What Pederson has installed here is a sense that everyone is welcome and everyone has a spot. From the practice squad guys all the way to the front office, Pederson and Roseman have made the Eagles the place to play for.
Just look at Alshon Jeffrey and Torrey Smith. These two wide receivers came together in the offseason and wanted to go to the same team to bring home a championship. I wonder how that worked out???
During last years playoffs, former Eagles, Jermey Maclin and LeSean McCoy, were a regular at all Eagles playoff home games. Even though it was his brother, Chiefs TE Travis Kelce was at the games.
But, it doesn’t stop there. According to defensive line coach Chris Wilson, Ndamukong Suh told him during the teams joint practices in training camp he would play for the Eagles for free in 2018. Maybe a little jokingly, but it shows the willingness for players to come here and play for this great franchise.
However, it is also our players too trying to get former teammates and friends to come here. Look what happened last night. Jalen Mills tried to recruit his former LSU teammate to the Eagles.

Therefore, Are the Eagles becoming the NFL’s most wanted to play for team? YES, ABSOLUTELY THEY ARE. All that has happened over the last 2 years and now this offseason shows the passion and thrill it is to play here. To play 8 and possibly 10 home games a season in-front of a sold-out packed Lincoln Financial Field.
The atmosphere of the crowd has really resembled what the organization has been trying to install inside the locker room. Leading to more players around the league wanting to come here and try it out for themselves.
