Brian Windhorst Hopped on 97.5 Earlier Today to Spew the Most Absurd #LebrontoPhilly Comments Yet
This past week has seen the Lebron free agency hysteria run rampant in the city of Philadelphia. From Malvern Prep rumors to billboards popping up in Cleveland recruiting King James, the #LebrontoPhilly movement is already wild. With Lebron’s Cavs taking on the Sixers, the “Will Nick Foles be traded?” hot topic has been replaced with “Will Lebron sign with the Sixers?” across Philly radio waves. Today, the 97.5 Midday Show had Brian Windhorst on to discuss the rumors and see how Windhorst, who lives in Lebron’s ass, feels about the impending free agency saga:

Wow, just wow. I want to believe that Windhorst is just baiting us much like Colin Cowherd did with his “Philly fans are the dumbest fan base in sports” bit but I don’t think Windhorst is even that smart. He truly just doesn’t get it.
This isn’t specific to Lebron but I love when people say a guy will play where he’s happy, like Windhorst mentioned with Lebron come this July. You know what makes people happy? Winning. I cried tears of joy when the Eagles won the Super Bowl, it was the happiest moment in my life. Saying Lebron will go somewhere in order to be happy and watch his sons shitty middle school AAU tournaments is borderline ridiculous. You gotta figure the guy who has “Chosen One” tattooed on his back and has spent a career chasing Jordan will probably choose a destination that will help him grab a few more rings, not just bounce to LA cause he has a nice house there. Are the Sixers the landing spot with the most potential? I think so, but it is certainly debatable.
Back to Windhorst riding on Lebron’s coattails. When asked the odds of Lebron joining the Sixers, he offered no answer but did get the chance to mention how many people stop him at hotels and airports to ask him about Lebron’s free agency so we allllllll know how important Brian Windhorst is. We get it man, you’re a big time NBA “analyst”. You wanna know why Windhorst has no answer for where Lebron is going? Because Lebron has no answers for him.
The last part of this absurd interview is the piece that is causing the radio to go haywire right now. Windhorst stated that the Sixers should consider TRADING Ben Simmons in order to acquire a piece like Kawhi Leonard, which would attract Lebron. These statements right here are why we need to stop giving talking heads like Windhorst and Nick Wright attention. They have minimal basketball knowledge but they know Lebron can supply them with attention. For so many reasons, it would be absolutely ridiculous to even think about using Simmons as a trade chip.
Simmons, at 21, should have probably been an All-Star in his rookie season. He has already shown superstar potential very early in his career despite a clear weakness with this shooting. Simmons has been drawing comparisons to Lebron since his junior year of high school. Now that you gave him, you are going to trade him in order to get Lebron himself who is 13 years older? Explain that logic to me.
Secondly, I love Kawhi Leonard. Despite being the face of the Spurs and an All-Star in the league, he is somehow still underrated. But, are you trading for Leonard, who will be 27 when the new league year begins and has a 20 million dollar cap hit for a relatively inexpensive budding star? Probably not.
Lastly, trading for a star piece doesn’t guarantee Lebron will join your squad. The Miami Heat drafted Shabazz Napier just because it was Lebron’s favorite college player. Then he went back to Cleveland. You could trade for a piece like Kawhi, wake up the next morning and find out Lebron is a Laker. Then you’re stuck watching the inevitability successful Ben Simmons Spurs era for the rest of his career. I would probably stop watching basketball.
We have just now reached March in the NBA season and Lebron free agency rumors are already tiring. Before we get there can we just have JJ Redick hit open threes with the game on the line like we pay him to do? I liked it better when the biggest drama in the city was whether we could climb up the light poles or not.
