Flyers Place Tony DeAngelo On Waivers

As we alluded to earlier this week, the Flyers trade with the Carolina Hurricanes has fallen through. Not to any fault of the Flyers, the Hurricanes are looking to add Erik Karlsson and were not able to make it work with the Flyers.

So GM Danny Briere decided it was best to place DeAngelo on waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

DeAngelo will become an unrestricted free agent and very well could still end up in Carolina.

While he didn’t pan out the way Flyers fans had hoped during his short stint here its tough to put the blame just on him. He was brought in by an incompetent GM at the time in Chuck Fletcher and was overpaid.

His play on the ice wasn’t as horrible as everyone makes it out to be and other than the spearing incident this season he kept his name out of the spotlight for the bulk of the year.

One of the key factors here was also he had clearly fallen out of Torts graces and it was clear he wasn’t going to be a part of this team going forward. Now, DeAngelo will be able to get a fresh start and the Flyers can clear some space and a roster spot for their young guys coming up.
