FINALLY!!! Chuck Fletcher Fired

It is a beautiful Friday in Philadelphia!!!

FINALLY, the Philadelphia Flyers have fired Chuck Fletcher as GM and President of Hockey Ops.

I have been waiting for this day for almost two years and if you don’t think I am going to dance all over Chuck Fletchers grave you’re dead wrong. I don’t care that this man lost his job, I don’t care if he’s actually a decent guy. This man single handedly turned one of the proudest NHL franchises into the laughing stock of the NHL over the last four years.

So with that, Chuck Fletcher, don’t let the door hit you on the way out and please never step foot in this city again or come anywhere near our franchise again.

Former Flyer Danny Briere, who had been serving as Special Assistant to the GM will be taking over as the interim GM.

This also isn’t the only move coming, rumors are swirling that this could be the first of many big changes coming to the Flyers front office. That alone, should be a breathe of fresh air to us Flyers fans that have suffered for the last almost 10+ years.

Rumors of Dave Scott stepping down as well as other higher ups being relived of their duties/stepping down are hot right now. This is exactly what the Flyers front office needs. A complete overhaul and Chuck Fletcher was the first of hopefully many dominos to fall.

Get all of the old heads out and bring in people to get this shit turned around. I was all on board with Danny B taking over at first but I am a little worried he has been surrounded by the wrong people that he might not be the right guy to be the next full time GM.

Perfectly fine with him stepping in as an interim role and keeping him on for the future but the Flyers need to get this next GM right. Could it be Danny Briere? Sure it could, but they need to consider all possibilities and make sure they don’t continue pushing this franchise back. One more failed GM and we are going to be the new Coyotes of the NHL.

While Chuck Fletcher being fired is a step in the right direction, there is still plenty of work that needs to be done. At the end of the season clear out the entire front office and have the new staff in place for the draft and free agency.

These last 17 games just became a lot more important for the players and for Torts. The players are playing for their jobs going forward and Torts is coaching to make sure he stays the guy in charge behind the bench.

They also need to embrace the tank for the next 17 games and do everything they can to get into the top 5 of the draft. Obviously getting the number 1 overall pick is the goal but even being in the top 5 is great. Drafting Bedard would be a miracle sent from the hockey gods and we fucking deserve it.

Flyers fans, I know it has been hard and most of us are checked out. But, for the first time in a long time I have hope for the future. It finally feels like the fans are being heard and action is being taken. We aren’t back yet but we are getting there. It’s going to take time and we are still going to have to be patient. Embrace the rebuild and figure out what young talent you can build around. We’re a young team and with the right people in place we can get this turned around.

It’s been a while since I blogged and the Flyers miserable season has been the reason for that. Now that Chuck is gone, I can finally start caring again about my favorite Philly team. But expect much more content going forward when it comes to the Flyers.

I want to end this blog with this….

FUCK CHUCK FLETCHER.
