Eagles Odds Of Making The Playoffs On The Line Vs The Giants

Here we go again… The Philadelphia Eagles are in a win or go home situation. A similar situation to how they made the playoffs last season. Needing four straight wins in December to win the NFC East.

But, this year, it is not December. It is October.

Last year, the Eagles ran the table in their final four games against their fellow NFC East competition. Beating the Redskins, Cowboys, & Giants twice to elevate themselves from 5-7 to 9-7 & NFC East Champs.

This year, the Eagles have to do the same. Instead of running the table to end the season, the Eagles must run the table midway through the season to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Eagles next three games are their most important on the season. Playing the Dallas Cowboys & the New York Giants twice. Losing one of these games could be the difference between winning or losing the NFC East.

With a loss to the Washington Football Team in Week1, the Eagles are already behind in the tiebreakers. It is hard to see a two-loss division winner. A two-loss division winner will need a lot of help from the other teams in the NFC East. Something that is not out of the question, but it is the NFC East. You never know what is going to happen.

After Week3, the Eagles had a 25.6% chance of winning the NFC East. Today, entering the most important week of their season, the Eagles are just 6% points behind the Dallas Cowboys to win the NFC East. Gaining over 10% points over the past three weeks.

If the Eagles want any chance of the playoffs this year, the NFC East title is the only option. With the NFC East combining for just 5-wins, only one team will come out of the NFC East.

“Despite having a record that would put them 3rd or lower in every other division, the Cowboys 2-4 is actually the best in their own and sees their odds of winning it stand at +115. Put simply, this implies a 46.51% chance that they will manage it from here. That puts them marginally ahead of 1-4-1 Philadelphia Eagles, whose odds of +145 imply a 40.82% chance. Third is New York Giants with a record of 1-5 and odds of +900 suggesting a 10% chance of divisional success. And lastly comes Washington Football Team who, despite having the record as the Giants, have longer odds of +1200 which carry a 7.69% chance.” – Oddschecker Pete Watt

With Carson Wentz being knocked out of his only playoff appearance last season due to a concussion, a down year in the NFC East could be very beneficial to the Eagles sneaking into the playoffs. Allowing Wentz to get playoff experience without having any expectations to go far.

While they will not be officially eliminated from the NFC East title hopes with a loss to the Giants, the road to the playoffs will be an uphill battle the Eagles don’t look like they can win. A loss would mean the Eagles need to win at least three of their five games from Week11 to Week15. Teams that are all over .500 on the season & have a combined record of 20-7.

It is early, but the Eagles chances of making the playoffs will be heavily effected by their result Thursday Night vs the Giants. Looking down the road, if you are looking at the potential matchup for the Eagles, who will be the 4th seed if they make the playoffs, it would be a familiar face. Nick Foles & the Chicago Bears. Wouldn’t that be poetic justice.
