Eagles Looking to Bring Lamb to Philly

The Lamb to Philly hype train is starting to gain some momentum. Earlier last week stories came out about Howie being enamored with Cedee Lamb and the possibilities of the Eagles trading up. On Monday, morning Adam Schefter tweeted out that the 49ers are fielding calls for both of their first round picks, 13 and 31. They don’t pick again after the first round until the fifth and could be looking to add more picks. This combination of news has started to get some Eagles fans hyped up about Lamb potentially becoming an Eagle. Lamb is going to be one of the top three receivers off the board and has all the tools to become a pro bowler in the league.

Lamb has been getting a lot of comparisons to DeAndre Hopkins. Both are similar heights and builds, don’t have elite speed but can still burn corners, great hands, and are very physical receivers. Lamb’s strongest trait is his yards after catch, averaging a ridiculous 21.4 yards per catch this past season. Lamb didn’t get all those yards from just the deep ball. He’s able to get open on short routes and then burn opposing defenses in space and break open field tackles. Over the past two seasons, Cedee’s had 127 catches for 2,485 yards, and 25 touchdowns.

Lamb is probably going to be an absolute stud in the NFL and would look fantastic in midnight green. Let’s look at how the Eagles could make a move to get him. Lamb’s projected to go in the 9-13 range, where the Jaguars, Jets, Raiders and 49ers all pick and all could be looking at the receiver position. Looking at the NFL Draft trade value chart, the Eagles first round pick is worth 800 points and their second is worth 370, totaling 1170 points. If we’re basing a trade just on points those two picks could theoretically land the Eagles the 49ers pick at thirteen, which is worth 1150. While the Jags, Jets, and Raiders first rounders range from 1350-1200 points.

Obviously there’s more to making a trade than the points chart and it likely would take more than just a first and second to move up, possibly a future third or multiple fourth rounders this year. The Jags, Jets, and Raiders are all multiple players away from really competing so they could possibly be open to acquiring more picks rather than opting for a receiver that isn’t going to make them a contender immediately. Maybe the Jags go defense at 9 and the Jets decide to grab one of the top tackle prospects and Lamb is available at 13 where the 49ers are open for a trade. Regardless of how it happens, there is a real shot Lamb is a trade away from becoming an Eagle. The thought of Wentz hitting Lamb on a slant, breaking a tackle and then burning Dallas’s entire secondary for a touchdown should have all Eagles fans on board for a move up come draft night. The Eagles need to hit on their first round pick this year. With the question marks surrounding the next tier of receivers, whether it be Jefferson’s ability outside of the slot, Higgins lack of competition, or Mims’ hands, and the way the coaches have struggled developing receivers, trading up and getting arguably the top receiver prospect is something Howie and the Eagles seriously need to consider.
