Reliving the Best Moments of the NFL Draft in Philly

It’s crazy to think that it’s been a year since Philadelphia hosted the NFL Draft at the Art Museum. It’s even crazier to think by the end of the NFL season, we were back in the same place, celebrating a Super Bowl victory. It’s craziest to think that after all that, the NFL gave the rights to host its draft to the epicenter of mediocrity: Dallas, Texas. While the draft will inevitably suck this year, here’s a look back at the best moments from last years perfect Philly showing:

The beginning of the end for the Vikings:

The humiliation of the Minnesota Vikings did not begin in the NFC Championship. It began when Howie fleeced them for a first round pick. It was a desperate time for Mike Zimmer’s squad with the devastating injury to Teddy Bridgewater, but a first round pick? For Sam Bradford? That trade was so magnificent for two reasons we all know at this point. 1) It opened the door for Carson Wentz to come in and play right away 2) Without that trade, the Eagles would not have had a first round pick in a draft in which their city hosted. That’s pretty anti-climatic. Thanks for everything last year, Minnesota.

A Little Philly Touch:

Hey, there were no arrests, we behaved ourselves and we set an NFL Draft attendance record. Aside from booing the Commissioner, which is well deserved, everything went smoothly. I think we deserved a few viral Philly moments like this:

What a Perfect Atmosphere:

This year, the weather in Philadelphia is horrible for NFL Draft week. If we were to be hosts for 2018, the weather may have negatively affected attendance and overall crowd energy. Last year, it was absolutely perfect. We packed the parkway on a beautiful night to watch a magnificent stage with the city as our back drop. Having the draft outside is obviously a bit of a risk, but as the sun set on a raucous crowd and the buildings lit up green, it was clear we pulled this thing off. Hey, ESPN and NFL Network, you’re welcome for turning this event into an electric factory.

Greatest All Time Rendition of the Eagles Fight Song?

If it weren’t for Terry Bradshaw interrupting us, the NFC Championship sing-a-long after the 38-7 Super Bowl ticket-punch would’ve taken the cake. So, due to that interference, Friday night, Day 2 of the draft will always be held most dear in our hearts. Another perfect night, and the pick we all wanted. (I’m all in on a stellar Sidney Jones redshirt rookie campaign). They cued it up, and we did what we do best. Sometimes I rewatch my video of this and think, we’re not biased, we truly are the best sports city there is:

Good luck, Dallas. The bar was set high.
