Flyers vs Bruins Preseason Gameday

Tonight the Philadelphia Flyers ship up to Boston to take on the Boston Bruins in their third preseason game.

Off to an 0-2 start in the preseason after Monday nights debacle of a game the Flyers bounced back with a decent performance on Long Island against the Islanders but still fell short.

Tonight, they look to get into the win column and score some goals. One of the stories but not really a story just yet is the Flyers lack of goal scoring in the first two games. Keep in mind while they only have one goal combined in the two games, neither lineup they put out in the first two games was going to light up the scoreboard.

Tonight’s lineup could see some more offense as Joel Farabee, Owen Tippett, Morgan Frost, Tyson Foerster, and Bobby Brink will be on the ice. Brink will get the chance to play on a line with Tippett and Frost so if there was ever a time for him to have a breakout game to show he can play at the NHL level tonight would be that night.

The 4th line seems to be set in stone for the start of the season as Nick Deslauriers, Ryan Poehling, and Garnet Hathaway will be together once again. That is just about a lock to be your 4th line for opening night and it’s a decent 4th line. Thats a line thats going to be tough to play against every night and that is exactly what Torts wants.

Tyson Foerster is someone most considered a lock for the opening night roster but hasn’t been super impressive so far during training camp. Tonight would be a great opportunity for him to go out and make it impossible for Torts to keep him off the opening night roster.

Bobby Brink is another guy who could be on the bubble however, it looks more like he will start the season with the Phantoms. A good performance though could earn him some extra preseason games and make Torts decision a little but harder. Coming off an injury though it would probably benefit him more to get more playing time in the AHL. I asked assistant coach Rocky Thompson what he was looking to see from Brink tonight…

As for the goaltending situation Cal Petersen and Sam Ersson will be the two making the trip to Boston. Rocky Thompson will be behind the bench tonight and I asked him about the goaltending situation for the game here was his response…

Petersen will be looking to have a much better performance than he did Monday night. As for Ersson if he gets into the game, he will look to continue to inch closer to securing the backup goaltender job.

The Bruins come in 1-1 on the preseason coming off a loss to the Sabres on Tuesday night. Boston will have quite a few NHL regulars in the lineup tonight including Pastrnak, McAvoy, and newly named captain Brad Marchand. It won’t be an easy task for the Flyers as they will try to get into the win column.
