BREAKING: Flyers Trade Kevin Hayes

After what has felt like an eternity after rumors started spreading of possible trades on Saturday, Kevin Hayes has officially been traded to the St. Louis Blues.

The Flyers will receive the Blues 6th round pick in next years draft in return for Hayes and they will retain 50% of his salary. This trade is the definition of a Cap dump.

Originally this deal was supposed to be massive, possibly including multiple players and Picks. However, one of the rumor players involved on the Blues end Defenseman Torrey Krug decided not to waive his no trade clause.

Kevin Hayes had an up and down time with the Flyers and this past season it was clear him and Tortorella were not on the same page. With new GM Daniel Briere coming in and embracing a much needed rebuild, Kevin Hayes was not going to be a part of the future.

While he may not have lived up to what Flyers fans had hoped. You have to keep in mind what this guy went through while he was here. He tragically lost his brother and had to recover from two major surgeries. Sometimes fans forget these guys are humans and not machines. Hopefully St.Louis is the fresh start Hayes needs.

Sure it would have been nicer to get a better return for him but in reality the Flyers only gave up a 5th round pick to acquire him and they get some much need cap relief.

The NHL Draft is tomorrow, and Briere has been busy trying to acquire another 1st round pick to possibly package together to move up in the draft.

We will see what he is able to do as it seems the Flyers have their eyes set on selecting either Zach Benson or Matvei Michkov. One or both of those guys could be available at 7 but if the Flyers are set on one of the two Briere may want to move up.

It should be an interesting week with the NHL Draft and NHL Free agency opening on Saturday.
