BREAKING: Flyers Trade Ivan Provorov

The NHL offseason has not officially started but new Flyers GM Danny Briere has wasted no time and has made a big trade.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Flyers have traded defenseman Ivan Provorov to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The details of the trade are still coming out but the Los Angles Kings are the third team involved here and they will be retaining 30% of Provorov salary.

The Flyers  will be getting a 1st and 2nd round pick in return as well as goaltender Cal Petersen, Defenseman Sean Walker, and Helge Grans. Details are still coming out so there could be more but as of now that is the return.

I love that Danny Briere isn’t wasting any time and is embracing the full rebuild that the Flyers have needed for years. I don’t care about Provorov getting traded, he clearly was checked out and not someone that you want here when you’re trying to change the culture.  The return they got for him to is perfectly fine so overall I think it’s a good trade.

It also does not appear that Danny Briere is done either. Anthony Di Marco from The Fourth Period is reporting that the Flyers are working on a deal involving goaltender Carter Hart.

I am a little more concerned with the possible Carter Hart trade. I get it, he is going to bring you back some great value. But he is still only 24 years old and could be your franchise goaltender for the next 10 years. With the Flyers history of never having the great goaltending trading Hart could bring us back some great assets but what if in five years the only thing missing from the Flyers is an elite goaltender?

I want to trust Danny B and I believe him and Jonesy are the right guys  to turn this thing around. But forgive me for being cautious considering we’ve already been in purgatory for years. At some point I would like us to get out of it and I think Hart is a key piece of making that happen.
