I Miss Jimmy, Joel Misses Jimmy, We Should All Miss Jimmy

After a completely disastrous couple of weeks (and years) from this Sixers front office, Elton Brand probably thought things couldn’t get much worse. The entire NBA world just saw the fundamentally flawed roster you created get swept in the first round. Then, the reports of ownership looking to build a new arena funded by taxpayers broke DURING a protest against the social injustices going on in this country. Really can’t get much lower than that, right? Nope, tonight we got to see Jimmy Butler, the guy Brand chose not to bring back, lead the Miami Heat to a Game 1 win over the Bucks. Butler looked like the best player on the floor going for 40 points. He was on one in the 4th quarter, every time the Bucks made a little run, Jimmy came and knocked down a big shot. Not great Elton, but hey Bully Ball is back right? Oh and then there was Joel Embiid subtweeting the front office about Jimmy, which was hilarious.

I’m all for Jojo pulling this. He obviously wanted Butler back, but the front office decided to not listen to one of their franchise players. You know what Jo? I miss Jimmy too, we all should miss him. Even in his short time here, Jimmy felt like a Philly guy. He was tough, he was a fighter. From being kicked out of his house and becoming homeless as a teenager, he’s had to fight for everything he’s accomplished. Jimmy had heart, one of the few things this city asks from its athletes. He was an easy guy to root for. More than anything the Sixers were fun when Jimmy was here. He brought a certain energy out of Joel. Jojo seemed happier last year and had that fun loving energy. That was one of the many things that sucked about this year, it felt like we lost happy Joel.

This clip of Jimmy telling Joel to “shoot it” during the Toronto series, then Jo knocking down a three and doing his shimmy dance is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. It really feels like that was the team and Jimmy was the guy. There might have been some animosity from some of the fanbase towards Butler after last offseason, but at this point that should all be gone. All Sixers fans should miss Jimmy and that 2019 team, because I don’t know if we’re ever getting that close again. I hope Joel keeps tweeting about Jimmy, toss on a Butler Marquette jersey and support your guy Jo. Keep the subtle jabs at the front office coming too, they clearly have failed you and this fanbase. Just your daily reminder that every single person in this front office needs to be fired.
